Digital Printing and its methods

Among the different kinds of printing methods like offset printing, Flexographic printing, Screen printing, one popular method which is used by almost all the printing companies is the digital printing. Digital printing is a method that uses electronic files in the process of printing production. There are two different kinds of equipments used in digital printing viz; Direct imaging press (DI) and the digital color printer.

Direct imaging press is often used for quick results and they are mostly used for short runs of digital printing. The results produced this kind of process is quite different from the results of digital color printer. This image press is based on the method of offset printing or it is based on other press methods that automate the process of developing images and they have water proofing facility. The results are best with the direct imaging process.

As far as the other equipment which is used in digital printing is concerned is Digital color printer, which uses electro photography, inkjet or the method of Xerography to create images with the help of dry ink or toners. It is also used for processes that are quick and based on short term basis but the results which the process of digital color printer is produced is very much different from the direct imaging press. The results produced by this method are very much comparable with the results of the offset printing.

The different methods of digital printing are: On - demand Variable data and Web to print.

Print on demand or the On- demand printing procedure is method which allows to cater to the need of small amount of printing to be performed. Such a method is useful for companies who have to change or update their printers to meet the dynamics of the industry. For on demand printing, usually digital printers are used, this will cater to the need of an economical as well as good quality product. In other cases where the customers desire a very high quality outcome, then in such a case a direct imaging press would be made use of. Incase the work to be done requires urgency as well as high quality outcome, in such a case a waterless DI press would be used, wherein the outcome takes very less time to dry up.

Variable Data Printing (VDP) is a customized and personalized version of individual printing. This kind of printing is mostly used for the databases wherein each person is sent a separate mail with probably the same content but along with some minor changes.

Web to print digital printing is a high end web enabled printing method wherein direct mails are customized in a print management program. In this system the clients can also choose the images what they want to add in the content or brochures.
